Hello Fiberarts Guild of Pittsburgh members!

I’m so pleased to be writing my first message to you as President. Although I’m a newer member, I have tremendous respect for our Guild’s amazing presence in Pittsburgh. From Knit the Bridge to our new Portals exhibits, we help shape memorable moments in the city, sparking conversations about textiles and art that extend far beyond our 158 members.
In fact, that respect is what held me back from joining for many years! I had known about the Guild for over a decade but was too intimidated to become a member. I thought it was for Very Serious Artists and that my silly yarn spinning wouldn’t interest such an august group. But I’ve seen firsthand just how welcoming and supportive you all are!
My encouragement to longtime members: help break down the mystique by reaching out to individuals who would enjoy our camaraderie and community. Let them know they don’t need to wear a beret or have gallery shows to belong here. We’re for anybody with a passion for fiber arts!
And to newer members who haven’t yet found their place within the Guild: join a committee! Committee work is a fulfilling way to engage with other members and help shape our direction. The Guild literally would not run without its committees, and there are opportunities that fit any schedule—whether you have lots of time or very little. I put a list below with a few suggestions.
As I step into this role, I have one final ask. Can you please email the Guild and let me know two things: Why did you become a member? And what would make you burst-at-the-seams excited about the Guild—perhaps a new workshop series, community collaboration, exhibition opportunity, or something else entirely?
I look forward to serving you all and helping the Fiberart Guild of Pittsburgh continue to grow.
Thank you!
Jasmine Davis
P.S. Will you be at the Fiberart International opening events this weekend? I wish I could see you there, but I am at Braids in Cleveland – I hope it is excellent, and I look forward to seeing the exhibits when I return.
P.P.S. Here’s that promised list of committees!
Membership Committee – Help improve the onboard process and membership experience for new members! If you are a new member – this is a great opportunity to share your thoughts and help make a difference for other new members.
Content Creation – If you love making content for your own social media, consider joining the Communications team to create and post content about FGP members and events.
Check out our other committees and send an email to fiberartspgh@gmail.com to get involved!
