Hello, all!
I don’t know about you, but summer doesn’t always feel like “fiber arts time” to me. Perhaps our natural dyers out there feel differently, but my favorite time for getting up close and personal with a warm, wooly sheep fleece isn’t…August.
Fortunately, we’re keeping fiber art on the brain with a slate of upcoming programming, including:
– Your last chance to see the 25th edition of the Fiberart International at Contemporary Craft and Brew House Arts, through August 30th (Including a docent-led tour on August 30th.
– Our annual Potluck Picnic and Fiber Feedback at Diane Morrissey’s dye studio and yard. We’ll have a Fiber Feedback session at 1:30, with a potluck at 3. Get inspired by other members’ artwork and enjoy great company.
– We’re kicking off our fall programming on September 7th from 2-5 p.m. — it’s the first in a recurring series of events happening on the first Sunday of each month for the rest of the year! Each event features a meeting of our Fiber Interest Groups (Spinning and Knit & Crochet), a workshop, and a Show & Share session. More details coming soon!
So I’ll bet you’re wondering…how do we make all these programs happen? It’s not magic –it’s volunteers! Volunteering with the Guild is a great way to stay involved in the fiber art world, make new friends, or engage with the community.
If you’re reading this and you’re already on a committee or a dedicated volunteer, thank you! And if you’re not, I’m wondering: What would make it easier for you to volunteer for a committee or project? I would be thrilled if you’d write back to fiberartspgh@gmail.com and let me know how we can help make volunteering something you’d be excited about doing.
(And – if you’re excited about volunteering already: We’re looking for people to volunteer with our Programs committee by helping plan and execute events for our members. We’re also looking for folks to take a tabling or demonstration slot at A Fair in the Park the first weekend in September – I’m doing it again this year. It’s great fun and an easy way to connect with the Guild and with the public by doing what you already love to do.)
I look forward to seeing you at our upcoming events!
Thank you,
Jasmine “Min” Davis
