Guild members spent two days exploring natural dyes in June at (AIR) Artists Image Resource.
Mordants were used to paint or silkscreen print designs on cotton and silk before dying the cloth in madder, cochineal, mango and other dyes. The mordants changed the hues of the dyes — creating patterns.
Artist Image Resource staff supported the workshop led by Christina Roberts, master printer and expert on natural dyes. She is head of Education at the Fabric Workshop and Museum in Philadelphia.
Each piece reflected the diversity of the artists in the group. Many thanks to TresaVarner and her colleagues at AIR.
