The Fiberarts Guild of Pittsburgh is continuing the energy, enthusiasm and community involvement generated by Knit the Bridge by planning a community outreach component of Fiberart International 2016 – Pop des Fleurs.
Pop des Fleurs is an outdoor installation planned for the winters of 2015 and 2016, designed to bring delight and color during the dark season through handmade, pop-up flower gardens. Pop des Fleurs will be created by the community, primarily from repurposed materials. It will have a centralized website and use social media to share tutorials, information and updates.
An integral part of Pop des Fleurs is group learning sessions in homes, community centers, and schools. Skill sharing groups will be formed to educate community participants about various types of fiber techniques to create beautiful and durable flowers.
Knit the Bridge led by FGP as a community outreach arm of Fiberart International 2013, brought together the diverse communities of Pittsburgh and Southwestern PA to create a large-scale, fiberarts installation on the Andy Warhol/7th St. Bridge on view August 12 through Sept. 6, 2013.
