SUMMARY:Artist Trading Card Making
DESCRIPTION:Come make with us! \n\n\n\nHelp us reach our goal of creating 100 artist trading cards to give to Fiberart International 2025 artists at the Artist Welcoming Reception. Artist trading cards are tiny works of art measuring 2.5″ x 3.5″ in size and they can be any medium! \n\n\n\nThis event will provide instructions and parameters for creating Artist Trading Cards\, examples of completed cards\, and materials and tools to begin creating together. Each of these works will be collected\, documented\, and gifted to the FI2025 artists who are joining us in Pittsburgh this June. \n\n\n\nLast session we had a station with materials to share\, templates\, and a sewing machine set up for finishing. We created felted\, crocheted\, beaded\, embroidered and quilted works! This is your way to share a piece of handmade art with a new FI friend!

SUMMARY:Contribute to "The Witness Quilt"
DESCRIPTION:FGP has an opportunity to participate in “The Witness Quilt\,” part of Pittsburgh artist Louise Silk’s new exhibition at the Heinz History Center: Louise Silk: A Patchwork Life in the museum’s fifth floor Barensfeld Gallery. \n\n\n\n“The Witness Quilt” is an interactive community project. Silk has started to create a special quilt from 1\,152 patches of reused fabric\, each bearing folk sayings collected over a lifetime of listening and learning. \n\n\n\n“The Witness Quilt” embodies the major themes of Silk’s career. It explores the fluid boundaries between craft and art\, highlights quilting’s interactive and communal aspects\, and integrates Jewish cultural expression into the broader fabric of American life. \n\n\n\nThroughout the run of the exhibit\, Silk and a team of volunteers – the Patchwork Life Stitching Circle – will be stationed inside the exhibition to continue working on the quilt. \n\n\n\nA special display of the FGP archives will be on display on the sixth floor at the same time. \n\n\n\nSpecial Opportunities for FGP Members\n\n\n\nFree admission for all guild members March 9-16. \n\n\n\nBetween March 9-16\, FGP members are invited to participate in expanding the “The Witness Quilt” by bringing in a piece of fabric that holds personal significance and donating it for incorporation into the quilt or by volunteering to join the Stitching Circle. \n\n\n\nLouise will be available to meet with FGP members and give us a personal tour on  \n\n\n\nWednesday\, March 12\, 3-5 pmSunday\, March 16\, 1-3 pm \n\n\n\nNo prior registration is required. The Heinz History Center will have a list of FGP members and all you need to do is tell them your name and that you are a Fiberarts Guild member.

DESCRIPTION:Join Carolyn Carson and Barb Kubala for an engaging and educational session designed to prepare you to help plan the guild’s upcoming juried show for fiscal year 25-26! For decades\, this annual tradition has been a cornerstone of our community\, and now it’s your chance to be part of it. Whether you’re interested in becoming a co-chair or joining the planning committee\, this session will cover everything you need to know to create a successful guild exhibition. \n\n\n\nTopics Covered:• Finding and securing a gallery• Collaborating with a juror• Determining a theme and writing a prospectus• Key timelines and steps involved in planning \n\n\n\nLearn how to make volunteering for this rewarding project easier and more enjoyable by understanding the process. Planning a juried show is a fun and meaningful way to contribute to the guild while building valuable skills. \n\n\n\nFollowing the exhibition planning meeting\, we’ll host a formal critique session open to all. Bring artwork you’d like feedback on or simply attend to observe and learn. This is an opportunity to: \n\n\n\n• Receive constructive\, kind\, and helpful feedback from peers• Ask specific questions about your work• Learn from critiques of others’ pieces \n\n\n\nModerators will ensure all feedback is supportive and aligned with each artist’s needs. After the critique\, there will also be time for individuals to share work without seeking feedback. Take part in the Pole to Polls Vote sign project? \n\n\n\nJoin us as we celebrate the Fiberarts Guild of Pittsburgh’s community-building art installations that have become a part of Pittsburgh’s rich arts history in the last decade! \n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nPieces from each installation will be on display\, as well as the entire Pittsburgh Calico Dress. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nThere will be dessert to eat and friends all around. Velum Fermentation is a family friendly environment with activities and games for all ages. Bring the whole family to celebrate fiber art!  \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nHonor a Guild Member\n\n\n\nAs part of our celebration\, the Guild will honor some of our members with a new tradition . . . the First Annual Guild Awards! DESCRIPTION:BC (before Covid) programs and activities by the Guild included interest groups – small groups of Guild members who were particularly interested in one fiber medium or technique.  Groups were informally structured and self-governed\, each deciding how\, where\, and when to meet\, and how to focus their activities.Our two recent skill share workshops that focused on spinning and weaving resulted in a group of members who want to explore starting a group that meets on a regular basis. \n\n\n\nOur host Dayle Kendall from Wildchild welcomes us to unwind\, spin\, and card as we plan how to continue our mission to have regular gatherings with like-minded fiber friends to learn and share information about creating and using yarn and thread from animal and plant fibers. \n\n\n\nIf you are interested or simply want to learn more\, please join us!
