SUMMARY:Fiber Sunday: Applique with Sandy Andrews\, Fiber Interest Groups\, Artist Critique\, Show & Share
DESCRIPTION:2:00-2:30 pm Fiber Interest Groups \n\n\n\nJoin us for community\, coworking\, and conversation – all portable handcrafts and skill levels are welcome. \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n2:30-3:30 pm Featured Presentation: Applique with Sandy Andrews \n\n\n\nApplique is a decorative technique where smaller cut-out pieces of fabric or other materials are adhered to a larger background fabric to create a picture\, pattern\, or texture. \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nAs a Fiber Art Guild of Pittsburgh member for over 20 years\, Sandy Andrews has had a passion for fiber and fabrics all of her life. After graduating from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh’s School of Interior Design\, she worked in the custom drapery and fabric field for several years. During this time\, Sandy gathered a collection of fabrics that led her to use as her means of artistic expression. This took the form of abstract\, organic sketches being transformed into a fabric design appliquéd onto a background material. The finished piece is then stretch and stapled over a custom wood frame. \n\n\n\nUsing this style\, Sandy entered art shows such as a Juried Three Rivers Art Show where her work sold at a local Related Arts Society show where her appliqué was the only craft piece entered. Regardless\, that same piece was selected as Best in Show by three Jurists.  Another piece was purchased by the late Betty Raphael\, founder of The Store in Verona\, predecessor to Contemporary Craft. Along with Betty’s collection of favorite crafts\, this same appliqué piece was exhibited at the Scaife Gallery of the Carnegie Museum… a thrill for any artist! \n\n\n\nSandy also holds a B.A. in Biology from La Roche University\, Pittsburgh and is a licensed Private Pilot. Just for fun! \n\n\n\n\n3:30-4:30 pm Artist Critique and Show & Share \n\n\n\nThinking about entering into an upcoming Exhibition? Or maybe you’re looking to sell your work in a gallery\, brick & mortar shop\, or online? Take your work to new heights by participating in an Artist Critique! \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nNot quite ready for a critique? Then bring your latest work or in-progress project to share with fellow members. Talk about your process and celebrate your progress! \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n4:30-5:00 pm Fiber Sunday Survey Results \n\n\n\nLet’s review our survey results from a previous Fiber Sunday event to discuss how we can make this community inclusive\, engaging\, and value-added for our members!

Rooted in tailoring tradition\, it refers to garments made from the same bolt of fabric\, eachdistinct in form yet united by a common material. Over time\, the expression has become a metaphor for the invisible threads that connect us: our histories\, communities\, beliefs\, and shared humanity. \n\n\n\nThe Fiberarts Guild of Pittsburgh invites artists to consider these connections through the language of fiber. As a community dedicated to advancing fiber art in all its forms\, we recognize that while artists work with diverse materials\, techniques\, and perspectives\, they are united by a commitment to creative exploration\, technical excellence\, and innovation. \n\n\n\nAcross two gallery spaces\, selected works will engage in a visual conversation\, revealing relationshipsbetween process\, material\, and meaning. Together\, they will explore themes of identity\, community\,belonging\, resilience\, and transformation\, demonstrating the extraordinary breadth of contemporary fiberart. \n\n\n\nWe invite Fiberarts Guild members to contribute original work that expands this dialogue\, offering personal interpretations of connection\, shared experience\, and collective making. Whether literal or conceptual\, intimate or monumental\, each work becomes part of a larger tapestry that celebrates both the threads that unite us and the unique perspectives each artist brings to the whole. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJuror\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nMargaret Dugger is an artist currently based in Pittsburgh\, PA. They studied at Haywood Community College in Clyde\, North Carolina\, and at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. \n\n\n\nTrained in traditional handweaving\, Margaret uses historic craft skills to make sense of our contemporary lives. She is excited and inspired by what happens when you combine new materials and ways of thinking with old processes! Margaret has been thankful to learn from a wide variety of teachers\, who have guided her on this path. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nProspectus\n\n\n\nSubmit Your Work
