SUMMARY:Beaded & Stitched Mandala Workshop with Julie Booth (Zoom)
DESCRIPTION:Workshop limited to 20 participants. Registration deadline: October 25\, 2026  \n\n\n\nParticipants will create a small “meditative” mandala from beads\, sequins\, ribbons\, cheeseclothand tulle. Julie will show students how to build a layered collage\, apply beads and sequins\,attach a shell or sea glass with a thread net\, ruch ribbons and couch yarns. She will alsodemonstrate how to add a backing and stitched edging to the finished piece. Julie enjoys givingthese beautiful beaded and stitched mandalas as gifts for healing or protection. \n\n\n\n$45 workshop fee includes a required kit containing the following materials: \n\n\n\n\n(1) 5” square cotton fabric\n\n\n\n(1) 5” square wool blend felt for a stabilizer\n\n\n\n(1) 7” square cotton backing fabric\n\n\n\nTulle to cover your fabric base\n\n\n\nSmall assortment of painted cheesecloth scraps\n\n\n\n(1) shell or piece of sea glass\n\n\n\nAssortment of size 6 and 8 seed beads and sequins\n\n\n\nSmall assortment of larger focal or unusual beads\n\n\n\nSmall assortment of ribbon and yarn\n\n\n\n(2) balls of pearl cotton thread (size 8) to complement your kit colors\n\n\n\nNeedle pack (includes (2) crewel embroidery (#3\, #5)\, (1) sharp (#5)\, (2) chenille (# 24\, #22)\n\n\n\n\nJulie will be creating kits in an assortment of colors. When ordering your kit\, please provide twocolor options that you’d be willing to work with. \n\n\n\nStudents should bring the following items to class: \n\n\n\n\nFabric scissors\n\n\n\nEmbroidery (small\, sharp) scissors\n\n\n\nPins (glass head ones are fine)\n\n\n\nBottle cap: 2.5”-3” diameter. You’ll trace this to create your mandala circle.\n\n\n\nPermanent marker (fine point) for tracing around the bottle cap.\n\n\n\nOptional: 6”-12” Ruler (I prefer a clear gridded one\, but any type will do)\n\n\n\nOptional: Threads in additional colors (I suggest pearl cotton in sizes 8 or 12)\n\n\n\nOptional: Task light\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nRegister Here\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nAbout Julie B. Booth \n\n\n\nI’m an artist\, an author but most of all\, I’m a teacher who loves to inspire my students to stretch. My greatest joy is watching students get excited\, jump in fully and produce works that speak to them and others. \n\n\n\nI personally enjoy hours in the studio playing with fabric and threads\, experimenting with basic hand stitches and observing the “secrets” they reveal through play. \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nIn 2013-2014\, I wrote Fabric Printing at Home (Quarry Books 2014)\, a book that focuses on using household materials to create print blocks\, stencils\, and fabric resists. \n\n\n\nI’ve been a featured artist in three Quilting Arts TV series and have written several articles for Quilting Arts magazine on hand stitching and surface design projects. \n\n\n\nIn 2020\, I moved my teaching online. I teach workshops and classes in hand stitching as an expressive art medium as well as how to create beautiful\, hand stitched art objects. \n\n\n\nI’ve had and continue to have the pleasure of teaching experimental hand stitching projects and techniques for organizations\, guilds and conferences including TextileArtist.org’s Stitch Club (2020\, 2022\, and 2027); Quilt and Surface Design Symposium (2024); Artistic Artifacts’ Creative Minds Summit (2025 and 2026); Art Quilt Midwest (2025).
