SUMMARY:Fiber Field Trip: International Sculpture Center Grand Opening
DESCRIPTION:Join the Fiberarts Guild of Pittsburgh as we support our members featured in ISC’s inaugural exhibition\, SOFT Launch\, as well as the Welcome Blanket initiative. \n\n\n\n\nSchedule:6:00 – 8:00 pm Meet at the International Sculpture Center to enjoy the SOFT Launch exhibition and Grand Opening8:00 pm If there is interest\, we may go to nearby Butterwood Bake Consortium for a post-opening dessert! \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nAbout the Event:The ISC Grand Opening will coincide with the closing of the ISC Gallery’s inaugural exhibition\, SOFT Launch. The artists of this exhibition will be on hand to discuss these fiber-based and soft sculpture works\, exploring themes of comfort\, memory\, tactility\, and resistance. \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nThe event will also feature a special preview of Welcome Blanket\, a community-led initiative founded by artist and activist Jayna Zweiman. Welcome Blanket transforms the traditional act of crafting a blanket into a poignant gesture of hospitality and inclusion for immigrants and refugees arriving in the United States\, accompanied by personal notes and shared stories from the maker. \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nTogether\, these contributions form a moving installation that subverts the idea of borders as barriers\, instead weaving a powerful symbol of unity and welcome. Welcome Blanket will be on display in the ISC Gallery from November 2025 through March 2026. \n\n\n\nPlease join us at this reception to see the new headquarters\, connect with local artists and community members\, and learn more about the ISC and its mission to empower sculptors and enrich the sculpture ecosystem.
